Who we are
+100years history
The current president is the fourth generation. The company has continued for over 100 years, spanning four generations. It has grown as a leader among the local tea farmers, continuing to produce tea leaves on a plateau overlooking the Kirishima mountain range in Kagoshima Prefecture.
We have now built a dedicated factory, and in addition to producing tea leaves, we also produce matcha tea at our own factory.
Producing tea leaves is a job that involves working with nature. We produce matcha at the best time of year each year, while feeling the changes in nature.
Of course, we produce tea leaves with an eye on the overseas market, and we produce them organically.
現在の社長は4代目。 100年以上、4代にわたって会社を継続してきました。 鹿児島県の霧島連山を望む高台で茶葉の生産を続け、地元の茶農家のリーダーとして成長してきました。
現在では専用工場を建設し、茶葉の生産に加え、自社工場で抹茶の生産も行っています。
茶葉の生産は、自然と向き合う仕事です。毎年、その年の一番良い時期を見計らって抹茶を生産していますが、自然の移り変わりを感じながらの作業です。
もちろん、海外市場も視野に入れ、有機栽培で茶葉を生産しています。
Aiming for the world from the very beginning
Tea was introduced to Japan from China more than 1000 years ago. Kagoshima Prefecture, where Imayoshi is located, was called Satsuma during the Edo period. Satsuma promoted tea production as a strategic product for export. Even today, Kagoshima tea is a product for export, so we are particular about organic cultivation.
As you can see on the map, Kagoshima Prefecture is located closest to Asia.
I think that the fact that this matcha cafe in Kagoshima is now heading out into the world is a continuation of the trend from those days.
中国から日本にお茶が伝わったのは1000年以上前のことです。今吉の位置する鹿児島県は、江戸時代には薩摩という名称でした。薩摩はお茶生産を推奨します。それは輸出用の戦略商品としてでした。今でも鹿児島のお茶は、輸出用商品です。ですからオーガニック栽培にこだわっています。
鹿児島県は地図で分かるように、一番アジアに近い場所に位置します。
今日、この鹿児島の抹茶カフェが世界へ向かうのも、当時からの流れだtお思います。
How we work
Real Matcha
The owner of this café is a genuine tea farmer and has been in business for over 100 years.
In Japan, wholesalers have a lot of power when it comes to the distribution of tea. They collect tea leaves from farmers, evaluate them, and distribute them under their own brand. All of Japan's famous tea brands are simply wholesalers. They don't actually produce the tea.
We are the only café in Japan that is run by tea farmers.
このカフェのオーナーは正真正銘の茶葉の農家です。100年以上の歴史を持ちます。
日本のお茶の流通は、問屋が力を持っていました。農家から茶葉を集めて品評し、問屋のブランドで流通させています。日本の有名なお茶ブランドは全て、単なる問屋です。お茶の生産をしているわけではありません。
日本で唯一の、お茶農家が経営しているCaféが私たちです。
Sweet but healthy
The above drink has a subtle sweetness. However, no sugar or other sweeteners are used. Why is it sweet? The sweetness is due to the glutamic acid in the tea leaves.
甘いが健康的~~上のドリンクは、ほのかな甘みがあります。しかし砂糖やその他の甘味料は一切使っていません。何故甘いのか?茶葉に含まれるグルタミン酸で甘さを感じるのです。
